Second Garden Settles In…

Tomatoes and Pepper Plants have been planted…

Roughly arranged with shorter varieties to the front…

Taller against the house…

Look closely and see one of my Secrets to Healthy Plants…

FEED ‘EM, lol…

You want to push your Veggies for maximum Growth and Yields…

So give them what they need to do so…

Ample water…

As much Sun as possible…

And a Good Quality Organic Fertilizer…

I put a small handful in the bottom of the hole…

Then a thin layer of soil to give the roots a chance to recover…

From planting, because I will usually spread or break up the Roots a bit…

To correct them from being in a tight container and encourage them to spread…

When they begin to grow again, they will head straight into the fertilizer…

The entire bed has been thoroughly soaked on a warm day…

And then I put down a mulch to discourage weeds and help the soil retain water…

And to help regulate the soil temperature…

In a small garden, I like to use Cocoa Shell Mulch…

It looks Good and Works Well…

And I like how it decomposes and helps build the soil…

It smells like chocolate for a couple of days, too…

Just keep dogs away from it, it can harm them if they eat it…

Here’s a close up of the Mulch, which is the discarded hulls of Cocoa Beans used to make Chocolate…

And, yup, they come from Hershey, PA…

You’re unlikely to find them in your local bigbox/mart stores…

But the Feed ‘n Seeds should be able to order them for you, if they don’t stock them…

Oooops, we had an overnight visit from the Local Fox…

Who broke some branches and stems on a few Tomato Plants…

So I put up the stakes a little early to deter him…
